AWARD OBJECTIVE: This award will recognize a business, education program, agency, or other organization that demonstrates best practices in work-based learning and apprenticeship programming. Catalysts will be spotlighted at the WBLA Quarterly Meeting, workNet and/or Apprenticeship Illinois social media, and the Illinois Workforce Innovation Board (IWIB) Quarterly Bulletin.
ELIGIBILITY: Any person, team, or organization that exemplifies best practices in Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeship. If applicable, programs must abide by the standards established by the Quality Jobs Act. Contenders will be considered from any of the following types of work-based learning:
Career Awareness: Initial exposure to various careers through activities
Career Exploration: Deeper investigation into specific career paths such as job shadowing, or career assessments, mentorship, etc.
Career Preparation: Hands-on experience like on-the-job training, internships, pre-apprenticeships, or project-based learning
Apprenticeship: Combines paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction to prepare workers for highly-skilled careers
Incumbent Worker Training: “Learning FOR Work;” refine and improve skills for immediate use, and career progression within specific job settings; onboarding and ongoing professional development
